The 6-week summer Proyecto Science program has provided a place for students interested in STEM to develop and strengthen their critical thinking, analytical skills, quantitative literacy, and lifelong learning since 1997. Students in 7th grade are invited to apply to the program and can complete four consecutive summer coursework in STEM. The program is managed by talented NJCU students, NJCU alumni, and Proyecto Science Alumni working as teachers and administrators under the guidance and mentorship of the program director, Dr. Meriem Bendaoud.

We are proud to report that the Proyecto Science program is continuing to offer returning 10th grade students to attend an additional 4th year in the program. Students who completed their Proyecto Science third year (PS3) last year have the opportunity to come back for another year of fun and active learning in STEM! This expansion was made possible by generous donations and continuous support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Thank you!

The program will be running this year in the summer of 2023, from June 26, 2023 to August 8, 2023. We will continue to use the Schoology platform for grading and online assignments. Last year, the program ran successfully with 260 students enrolled. STEM classes were held in the newly renovated Science Building on the main NJCU campus in Jersey City. We were able to offer a fully in-person learning environment where all students participated in their class activities on campus and were able to conduct hands-on assignments and lab dissections in person. We are anticipating that this summer 2023, students will be attending the program on campus at New Jersey City University.

More About The Program

Proyecto Science (PS) is a six-week summer program which focuses on advancement in mathematics, sciences, computer science and technology for select middle and high school students. PS offers its participants intensive courses in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Geometry, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology. The five-year summer program begins with 7th graders in PS1 (first year). Successful students that complete PS1 are invited back for PS2, PS3, and PS4, in their 8th, 9th, and 10th grade years in numbers determined by available funding. For admission requirements please visit our Admissions page.

Proyecto Science Cost and Participants: The cost for participation in the program is dependent on funding from school districts and other sponsors. Each year, the cost will be provided to prospective students during open house as well as in the acceptance packet. Participants in the program are selected from the participating schools following the eligibility requirements set by Proyecto Science. All interested 7th grade applicants must attend an Open House to receive the information.

(*) Depending upon availability of financial support. The program may not run in subsequent years if necessary funds are not acquired.
